“Hands Off Our Terreiros” We have a right to believe. Learn about our rituals before you talk about them. Know that we have a history, and it comes from a long way back. Don’t use the public sphere to legislate against us. Keep your prejudices to yourself and fight against them. The God we believe in is the same as yours, but with another name. Don’t impose on us the devils that are yours, not ours.

Afro-Uruguayan singer Lágrima Ríos (1924-2006), “The Lady of Candombe” and “The Black Pearl of Tango”

[When] Uruguay abolished slavery [in 1842], documents described African dance rituals in Montevideo and the countryside known as tangós, with the accent on the second syllable. The word referred variously to the drums, the dances and the places where the religious rituals were held. Therein lies an intriguing musicological tale about the obscure origins of the tango, one of the best-known Latin American musical genres.
The [Bantu-influenced] tango developed simultaneously in Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Although typically regarded as the creation of Italian and Spanish immigrants, the tango’s music and the dance movements associated with it were deeply influenced by African dance and music, according to experts.

The principal concern of the work is the Arcana of the Witch’s Eye and its mutual interaction with Sentient Luminosity. Treating the twin mysteria of Ocular Malediction (the so-called Evil Eye), and Seership or ‘The Sight’,  the book proceeds beyond this duality unto the realm of Telaesthesis —the unique perceptual modalities of the Witches’ Sabbath, grand abberator of the sensorial field.
Explored in detail is the magical relation between Hand and Eye, the Body of Void, and the vivification of the Magical Image. As a magico-poetic cartography of the illuminant metaphysic present in the folkloric strata of traditional witchcraft, The Light Heretical serves as both homage and grimoire to its Luciferan arcana.
